Charlie Maliszewski, President
Charlie is a retired biomedical researcher, most recently as Director of Immmunological Systems for Immunex Corp. then Amgen. Charlie holds a B.S. in Biology from Boston College and a PhD in Microbiology from Case Western Reserve University. In addition to his service on the RE Sources board, Charlie serves on the board of Sustainable Connections and also serves on the Futurewise Whatcom steering committee.
Ken Bronstein, Vice President
Ken has over 25 years of experience in financial and operations management in both the non-profit and for-profit worlds. He has over 15 years of financial management experience working for various non-profit and governmental organizations, and he is currently the Finance Director for ForestEthics, a non-profit organization that works to prevent the destruction of old-growth forests around the world. In addition to his work with ForestEthics, Ken is a member of the accounting department faculty at Western Washington University. He holds an M.B.A. in management from St. Mary’s College of California.
Danne Neill, Secretary
Danne is a real estate professional dedicated to sustainable development and environmental issues. Growing up in Western Washington State with a family tradition in real estate, she has been involved in numerous local civic organizations including: Kulshan Community Land Trust (Founding Board Member), Sustainable Connections (Charter Member), and Community Land Trust of Waldron Island (Past President).
Christopher Neros, Treasurer
Chris is Vice President & Commercial Loan Officer with Peoples Bank. Chris holds a BBA in Marketing from the University of Alaska and a MBA from Regis University. He has over 10 years of non-profit board experience, predominantly in the medical field. In addition to his service on the RE Sources board, Chris currently serves on the Revolving Loan Fund Committee for the Washington Economic Development Commission. .
Rick Dubrow
Rick is the owner of A-1 Builders, a Bellingham based remodel and construction company. A-1 has focused on green building, and A-1 is gaining regional renown for its emphasis on sustainability. Rick’s educational background includes a B.A. in Management from M.I.T and an M.A. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T. Rick was on the founding board of Sustainable Connections and is a member of the steering committee for Futurewise Whatcom.
Rabel Burdge
Rabel is an emeritus professor in the Department of Sociology and Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University, where he taught courses on environmental sociology and social impact assessment from 1996-2004. He is retired from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he taught and conducted research from 1976-1996. He is currently a consulting sociologist and is in his fourth year as a member of the Whatcom County Planning Commission.
Erica Charbonneau
Erica is the Director of Development for the College of Business and Economics at Western Washington University, where she leads the fundraising and donor relations efforts for the college. Erica has been working in fundraising and program development for over 10 years. Prior to her work in the non-profit sector, she worked in the banking industry. Erica has served on the boards of Whatcom Film Association, Downtown Renaissance Network and Whatcom Anti-Hunger Coalition. Her education includes a BA in Communication from the University of Connecticut, and continuing education with Wharton School of Business faculty in leadership and negotiation.
Craig Cole
Craig is President of Brown & Cole, Inc. and retired CEO of Brown & Cole Stores, a regional supermarket chain. He has been strongly supportive of environmental and sustainability efforts in the region for many years. He currently serves on the UW Board of Regents and is on the boards of Puget Sound Energy, Washington Roundtable, The Markets, LLC, and the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Hilary Culverwell
Hilary has recently retired from her long held position as North Sound Liaison for the Puget Sound Action Team (now the Puget Sound Partnership), where she worked on stormwater, habitat conservation and land use planning issues. She previously worked as the outreach coordinator for the Cedar/Lake Washington/Sammamish Watershed salmon recovery effort and holds a MS-Environmental Science and MPA from Indiana University.
David Flanagan
David is a technical writer and computer programmer whose real passion is for sustainability. He has written several best-selling books on computer programming, most notably for web designers. He has a degree in computer science from M.I.T, and has also holds a Permaculture Design Certificate. David has lived in Bellingham since 1997 and previously served on the board of Industrial Credit Union.
Heather Higgins-Aanes
Heather is Environmental Programs Coordinator for the City of Bellingham. Heather has over 25 years with the City of Bellingham, working with both the Public Works and Parks and Recreation. She holds a BA in Human Biology and Psychology from Stanford University and an MEd in Science Education from WWU. Her passions include mountains, saltwater, clean air and water and sustainable communities.
Alistair Jackson
Alistair is a green building consultant with O'Brien and Company and brings to the board his passionate focus on using business as a vehicle for social and environmental change. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Business Development for the social change oriented digital media company, World2Market/Viatru, and co-founded The Transparency Center, a research and education organization focused on empowering citizens to create and sustain local living economies. He lives with his family in Birch Bay.
